Student Licensing

A New York State Licence is required to practice speech pathology and/or audiology in all professional settings other than the public schools. Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped is required for appointment in the public schools.

Requirements for the New York License in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology

Requirements for New York State Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH)

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology.
  • Nine months of paid supervised work as a Speech-Language Pathologist and/or Audiologist.
  • Passing of the National Examinations in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology (NESPA).
  • Provisional certification
  • Permanent certificattion
