Workshop Coordinator

Barbara Zwerman, M.A., CCC-SLP
Director of Speech Language Pathology

“Picky Eating: Diagnosis and Treatment of Food Selectivity” will introduce participants to the “picky eating” child and discuss frequent comorbidities with food selectivity.  Participants will be educated on the differential diagnosis and evaluation process, including interdisciplinary team members, for children with food selectivity.  Multiple treatment strategies will be reviewed with the attendees and adaptations will be discussed and then applied to case studies.  Lastly, the presenter will provide support in transitioning therapeutic meal interventions to the caregiver and into the home environment.

Jessica Shaw is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with over 10 years of experience working in the medical setting with children with complex medical needs.  She graduated in 2007 from New York Medical College and went on to complete her fellowship year at Westchester Medical Center.  Jessica went on to work for other healthcare systems where she continued her growth and area of specialty in working with the medically fragile pediatric population.  Her areas of clinical specialty are pediatric feeding/dysphagia and airway management.  Jessica has developed and given lectures and conferences on the topics of pediatric feeding and swallowing and was most recently published in Passy Muir’s Journal for Aerodigestive Health’s pediatric issue on the assessment of the pediatric population with utilization of trans-tracheal pressure monitoring as a clinical indicator.  Jessica currently works at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children as the Assistant Director of inpatient Rehabilitation Services and the Cindy and Tod Johnson Center for Pediatric Feeding Disorders.  Additionally, she has been a part time member of the Adelphi University clinical staff since 2011.
