Overview
The purpose of this course is to identify strategies that simplify the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP): how to connect student’s actual Present Level of Performance (PLOP) to recommended Annual Goals and how to develop measurable and achievable Short-Term Goals from Annual Goals for actionable treatment plans. Specifically, this session will focus on assisting Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) with “inherited” IEPs. Routinely, SLPs receive IEPs that they did not write and, therefore, ‘inherit’ outdated documentation with goals that are either too “old”, too general, or too complex. Additionally, the IEP must be translated into meaningful treatment plans that address current struggles in the classroom. This session will address those issues.
Presenters
Jeri Weinstein Blum, M.S. CCC-SLP, TSSLD is the Director of EBS Therapy of New York where she has managed EBS's Bay Ridge clinic, oversees the NYCDOE Assessment contract for EBS, organizes the continuing education events for employees and performs recruitment and outreach activities for field based and clinic employees. She completed her B.S. at Sargent College, Boston University, and M.S. at Teacher's College, Columbia University, and her Advanced Certificate in Non-Profit Management at Long Island University- Brooklyn. Ms. Blum previously held clinical positions at numerous area hospitals and clinics and was Director of the Speech-Language and Hearing Center at Beth Israel Medical Center and Director of the Downtown Brooklyn Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic at Long Island University. She is currently in her second term as the Speech/Language Pathology representative for New York on the ASHA Advisory Council. Ms. Blum has also previously held positions on the New York State Speech Language and Hearing Association’s Executive Council and served as Vice President of the New York Metropolitan Council of Academic Clinic Directors.
Jason Rosas, M. Phil., M.S., CCC-SLP, TSSLD is the Director of School Relationships and Services for EBS Therapy of New York, where he oversees clinical performance and compliance to DOE, NY State and ASHA standards. He completed his M.S. at Teachers College, Columbia University and is pursuing his doctorate at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Jason is also the past-Chair of the NYS Licensure Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. He has coauthored journal articles and book chapters on bilingualism, and taught courses on assessment and intervention practices for speech-language pathologists.
