Director of Speech-Language Pathology
This course will provide information pertaining to head and neck cancer including treatment modalities utilized to treat cancer, acute and chronic symptoms as a result of head and neck cancer, the role of the Speech Language Pathologist in the evaluation and treatment of both communication and swallowing deficits for patients with head and neck cancer, the importance of proactive intervention for improved survivorship, gold standard protocols, and more.
Brooke Beilman is a speech-language pathologist with experience in the acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient, and skilled nursing settings. Through her clinical experiences, she has developed special interest in the area of dysphagia secondary to head and neck cancer. She is certified in manual interventions (myofascial release), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), and in the McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP.) She helped develop a rehabilitative program for patients with head and neck cancer which included pre-treatment instrumental evaluations, proactive therapeutic intervention, post-treatment instrumental evaluations, a cancer support group, and interdisciplinary collaboration with PT, OT, RD, and SLP services. Brooke has dedicated vast amounts of time to continuing education specific to oncology and is the recipient of the ASHA ACE Award. She is the founder of Servant Leadership, a mentorship program for SLPs, and is on the board of directors for the Dysphagia Outreach Program, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with dysphagia.
