Overview

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the NYS and Federal regulations regarding hearing aid dispensing. The workshop will cover required infection control procedures in order to adhere to universal precautions. Additionally, it will cover the use of tele-coil technology and assistive listening devices.

Presenters

Dr. MarieAnn Zumpone-Weibley Au.D., CCC-A, is NYS licensed, ASHA certified, and a dispensing audiologist for over 25 years. In the past Dr. Zumpone-Weibley has worked for the NYC Department of Education. She currently owns a private hearing aid practice and is the Director of Audiology for Summit Medical’s ENT departemnt in New York. Dr. Zumpone-Weibley is registered as a Hearing Aid Instructor by NYS and has been training audiology students for the past 20 years. She also has taught as an adjunct professor for the LI Au.D. Consortium and served as preceptor to students from numerous audiology doctoral programs throughout the country. She is the current Treasurer and a past president of LISHA.

Dr. Denise Passerieux, Au.D., CCC-A, is a NY State licensed, ASHA certified Audiologist that has been practicing for over 25 years. Dr. Passerieux has worked in a variety of settings including major hospitals, specialty hospitals, audiology clinics, private practice, and private otolaryngology practices. In addition, she was a technical support audiologist/assistive listening device specialist for a major hearing aid manufacturer for over 10 years. Dr. Passerieux currently is the Clinical Coordinator for the Long Island Au.D Consortium at St. John’s University. She also is an Adjunct Professor at St. John’s and Adelphi Universities. She is registered as a NY State Hearing Aid Instructor. She is the current Audiology Councilor for LISHA.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:
1. Identify the NYS requirements for hearing aid dispensing in various business models.
2. Describe the requirements for hearing aid registration and renewal for both businesses
and individuals in NYS.
3. Identify infection control procedures and their clinical application.
4. Determine the risks and methods of transmission of pathogens in the clinical setting.
5. Explain the use of tele-coil and its advantages for hearing aid users.
6. Identify and explain other forms of assistive listening technology including use with
Smartphones and streaming devices.
