PRESENTER 

Tatyana Elleseff M.A., CCC-SLP is a bilingual speech-language pathologist who specializes in working with multicultural, internationally and domestically adopted as well as at-risk children with complex communication disorders. She received her MA from NYU, her Bilingual Extension Certification from Columbia University and 4 ACE awards for continuing education from ASHA (to date). Her articles have been published in several magazines including Adoption Today, ASHA Perspectives SIG 16 and 17, as well as Advance for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. She has presented for a number of medical, academic and non-profit organizations including Speechpathology.com, Advance Magazine for Speech-Language Pathologists, New Jersey Speech Language and Hearing Convention, American Academy of Pediatrics: Council on Foster Care, Adoption and Kinship, New Jersey Taskforce on Child Abuse and Neglect as well as North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC). Handouts

PowerPoint/Handout Presentations will be emailed to confirmed attendees, 72 hours prior to the conference. There will be no internet access at venue to download handouts. So you will need to either print a copy or download the file to a computer, tablet or phone before the workshop.

Overview

This workshop discusses how monolingual SLPs can provide effective evidence based practice speech-language assessments to       differentiate between bilingual English language learners and bilinguals with primary language impairment. It also offers select recommendations regarding therapeutic interventions for bilingual children with language impairments.

 

Learing Objectives

1. Compare and contrast simultaneous and sequential bilingual language development including important bilingual     language milestones.
2. Describe characteristics of primary language impairment verses subtractive language acquisition.
3. Discuss research driven EBP in assessment of bilingual learners.
4. Implement learner appropriate intervention strategies.
